The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam on Saturday appealed to Railway Minister Dinesh Trivedi to increase the number of suburban services in the Chennai Beach-Tambaram and the Chennai-Tiruvallur-Arokonam-Gummidipoondi sections as there was a sudden spurt in the number of people using these train services.
DMK chief whip in Parliament T.K.S. Elgangovan, in a letter to the Minister, said the Tamil Nadu government had “almost doubled” the bus fares, making it cheaper to commute by train.
It had resulted in a sudden spurt in the number of commuters using suburban trains, he said.
