A team from the Department of Aerospace, SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Kattankulathur, which participated in the ‘Environmentally Responsible (Green) Aviation College Student Challenge', organised by NASA, has won the third place in the foreign university team's category. The team comprising Akshay Garg, Surya Kiran Peravalli, Abdul Sayeed Khan and Pate Sweety Prakash was guided by G. Mahendra Perumal, Assistant Professor, Department of Aerospace Engineering, SRM University. According to a release, NASA invited students to propose ideas and designs for future aircraft that uses less fuel, produce less harmful emissions and makes less noise. The team designed an aircraft for 200 passengers, incorporating efficient technologies in fuel efficiency, aerodynamic performance with small take-off and landing distances, use of modern and stronger composites.
