Women have a good future in politics, All India Congress Committee president Sonia Gandhi said here on Saturday.
Congratulating women workers who had come in large numbers to participate in elections to various wings of the Youth Congress held at the party headquarters Satyamurthi Bhavan here, Ms. Gandhi said she was happy to see women's involvement in the election process and urged them to strengthen the party at the grassroots level.
TNCC president K.V. Thangkabalu and State observers Usha Naidu and M.N. Suraj Urs explained to her the election process.
Later, Ms. Gandhi posed for photographs with the women workers.
Earlier on her arrival at the party headquarters, Ms. Gandhi was received by Mr. Thangkabalu and Congress Legislature Party leader D. Sudarssanam. She was closeted with Mr. Thangkabalu and Mr. Sudarssanam for about 5 minutes and signed the visitor's book. Later, she was introduced to a select gathering of party workers.
Ms. Gandhi looked at portraits of former TNCC presidents displayed at Satyamurthi Bhavan.
According to TNCC coordinators R. Damodaran and T.L. Sadasivalingam, this was the first time that Ms. Gandhi visited Satyamurthi Bhavan. Her visit was a morale booster for party workers, they added.
