After registering two cases related to the Queen's Baton Relay held at London prior to the Commonwealth Games 2010, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Monday arrested two sacked senior officials of the CWG Organising Committee (OC).
The agency arrested the former Joint Director-General, T.S. Darbari, and the former Deputy Director-General of the OC, Sanjay Mohindroo.
The first case was registered under Sections 120-B, 420, 468 and 471 of the Indian Penal Code and Section 13 (2) read with Section 13 (1) (d) of the Prevention of Corruption Act against Mr. Darbari and Dr. Mohindroo and a director of the OC, a London-based transport firm; its Director and others.
It was alleged that the accused officials of the Committee, in conspiracy with the transport firm and its Director, awarded work to the firm at exorbitant rates without following the standard tender process. The work was awarded on the false premise that the firm was on the panel of the Indian High Commission, London. Two e-mails were allegedly forged by the OC officials to justify the selection of the firm.
The second case was registered under Section 120B, 420 of the Indian Penal Code and Section 13(2), 13 (1) (d) of the Prevention of Corruption Act against Mr. Darbari and Dr. Mohindroo as well as the private firm dealing in audio-visual equipment, its Director and others.
It was alleged that the OC officials and the firm awarded the work of installation of video screens at the venue of Queen's Baton Relay, at exorbitant rates.
The work was awarded purportedly on the basis of fake quotations and without following standard procedures.
