A candle light procession was organised here on Tuesday in protest against the killing of All India Gorkha League president Madan Tamang at Darjeeling in neighbouring West Bengal on Friday.

Hundreds of people from all walks of life gathered at a park here where people showered flower petals on a photograph of Tamang.

Representatives of various social, apolitical and political organisations and common people along with many tourists lighted candles in front of the photo.

Tamang was hacked to death in Darjeeling by unknown attackers when he was busy arranging a meeting of his party.

The gathering was also observed to protest against the recent attack on Gorkhas in Meghalaya and to mourn the victims of the plane crash in Managalore, said Nirmal Mangar, one of the organisers of the candle light vigil.

The participants also observed a two-minute silence to those killed.
