Buzz of the Day | A taxing bill and unstoppable showstoppers

What drove the social media today? A comical couple regaling us from Gujarat, a star on the ascent in his twilight years, and the Rajya Sabha gets the GST of it.

As Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah , a sitcom that airs on Sab TV, hit its 2,000 episode, the social media was all of a dither.

Based on journalist Taarak Mehta's column in Gujarati weekly Chitralekha , the show is of the feel-good slapstick genre, underpinned by communal moral values, where togetherness and unity saves the day.

The secret to a happy marriage is a simple wife and an even more simple-minded husband. No wonder Jethalal Champaklal Gadha and Daya have had such a happy marriage for eight years and running.

There are lessons for us all.

How can the Prime Minister pass up this glorious tribute to his home-State? He too got into the act...

#UnrivalledAJITH

Just for being a qualitative parameter, it's debatable whether anybody can claim the title of 'most loved actor in the State'. But Ajith fans will have you know otherwise.

As their thalaivar completed 24 years of his illustrious career, the Twitterati hoisted him up on their collective shoulders. At the time of writing, the hashtag had accumulated 16,100 tweets!

His first appearance was En Veedu En Kanavar in 1990, though his first real major appearance was Prema Pustakam in 1992. Being a racer by career, it took a minor accident for him to transition into modelling and then acting.

Indian actors usually have even shorter careers than a fast-bowling cricketer. So, for Ajith to have surpassed Sachin Tendulkar's longevity career-wise, he earns industry-wide tributes.

Caps off!

#RajyaSabha #GSTBill

As the contentious GST amendment bill came up for passage in the Rajya Sabha, the social media perked up. While some cared about the tax impact on their consumption habits, others had other kicks to get.

In the end, it was anything but a close shave.

Some claimed it as a political victory, because that is always the focal point of anything.

Others were more generous in their assessment of the successful passage of the Bill.

Some realised that more than actual bones of contention, the Bill had survived one the most raucous chambers in India, the land of fishmarkets and Rajnikanth fans.
