Bhutan King visits Tagore's home

October 07, 2010 02:53 am | Updated 02:53 am IST - KOLKATA:

King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuk of Bhutan attended prayers at the Dakshineswar Kali temple and went on a “pilgrimage” to the ancestral home of Rabindranath Tagore at Jorasanko in the north of the city on the second day of his visit here on Wednesday.

He will return to Bhutan early on Thursday.

King Jigme Wangchuk was at the temple for nearly 35 minutes where, according to officials accompanying him, he experienced a sense of “tranquillity and peace.”

Later he went to the ancestral home of Tagore that also serves as ‘Tagore Museum.' He described himself as a “very big fan” of the poet.

His visit to the State was to strengthen Indo-Bhutanese friendship, he said.

“West Bengal is very important for Bhutan.”

“I am extremely grateful for the hospitality that I and my delegation received,” he said.

Governor M.K. Narayanan and Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee separately called on the King in the afternoon at his hotel.
