On the heels of Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan offering an elephant to the Guruvayur Sreekrishna Temple, his deputy Chhagan Bhujbal also did so. Mr. Chavan had offered the elephant on Saturday.
Accompanied by his wife and other relatives, Mr. Bhujbal gifted an elephant named Parthan to the deity on Sunday around 7 a.m.
Restrictions
Like Mr. Chavan, Mr. Bhujbal too paid a fee of Rs.5 lakh and symbolically offered an elephant already owned by the temple as there are restrictions on gifting new ones.
Mr. Bhujbal arrived in the temple town around 6 a.m.
He was received by Devaswom managing committee member T. R. Haari, administrator K. N. Raji, deputy administrator T. V. Somasundaran and temple accommodation manager P. Krishnankutty.
Security in and around the temple was beefed up for the past two days in connection with the visits of the Maharashtra leaders.
