Finance and Defence Minister Arun Jaitely on Tuesday successfully underwent a planned elective laparoscopic procedure for diabetes management.

“This procedure has been done because of the Minister’s uncontrolled diabetes. He has started moving now and will be starting his daily activities in a week’s time,” noted a release issued by the Max Super Speciality Hospital at Saket in Delhi, where he underwent the procedure.

The Minister was hospitalised on Monday evening after he complained of uneasiness.

Mr. Jaitley currently holds three of the most important portfolios — Finance, Defence and Corporate Affairs. “The Minister underwent the planned procedure for diabetes management under Dr. Pradeep K. Chowbey at the Max Super Speciality Hospital, Saket,” hospital authorities said.

Dr. Chowbey, a recipient of the Padma Shri award, is an honorary surgeon to the President of India, the Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS) and surgeon to the Dalai Lama.
