Union Home Secretary R.K. Singh on Saturday blamed Pakistan-based elements for uploading inflammatory and objectionable content on the Internet that painted an exaggerated picture of the recent violence in Assam.
Mr. Singh told journalists here that Ministry of Home Affairs officials have identified over 100 websites on which false and morphed images were posted from Pakistan to incite people in India and create communal tension.
“Our two teams deployed for this specific job have so far identified over 100 such websites on which inflammatory messages were uploaded from Pakistan…contents include old images from Myanmar and other places that are being used to provoke people. While 76 websites have already been blocked, 34 more would be blocked very soon,” he said.
Mr. Singh, however, had no information on the source of the SMSs which spread the false rumour that northeastern migrants had been attacked and killed by Muslims in Bangalore and which led to panic among northeasterners in Karnataka and elsewhere.
Stating that the MHA officials would take up the matter of the websites with the Ministry
of External Affairs, Mr. Singh also said: “We believe it is highly reprehensible …it needs to be made known to everybody that [the morphing and uploading] is something that is being done from Pakistan. The bulk of it has been done from Pakistan…our teams are certain of the findings and we will take up [the] issue with Pakistan. ”
The morphed images were used to mobilise Muslim protesters in Mumbai and were first exposed as a fabrication by civil society groups like Citizens for Justice and Peace.

It can be anticipated that the IPs could have been traced, which
would probably have revealed that the source is none other than
Pakistan. But, this would decrease the thirst to find the actual
cause.
Recently Pakistan has started to mature up by actually accepting that
most of the terror inside the country is a homegrown problem. Maybe it
is time that the Indians also muster up the courage and accept that.
SIMI and her likes are Indian homegrown terror organisation from the
Indian Muslim spectrum while those who incited the Gujrat riots,
Mumbai carnage of 90s and the Train bombing were all from the Indian
Hindu spectrum.
Things should start getting better from that point onward. Just
because India wants to keep the so-called Communal Harmony intact
doesn't mean you offload all your troubles in your neighborhood and
incite more hatred for your neighbor amongst your people!
Just proves the point that government and their officials dont like their job and are somehow dragging themselves. Read this fact along with the original sources of those pictures which were mostly from earhtquakes and similar mishaps almost 1 week back. Poor Job.
Don't make Pakistan 10 feet taller by blaming her in every thing wrong with
India, this is not a time for blame game but solid steps. We have to put our own house
in order.
foreign hand statement, always! a panacea for govt to hide its own inefficiency?
we should correct our defense system rather than blaming pakistan(they will never stop all this....).Further Gogoi is sleeping till such incidents happen and opened its door for Bangladeshis migrants.Tough actions are required to defend the borders from North east.
The lateness of this discovery is painful. It is the duty of the government of any country, constantly under terrorist threat, to keep a watch on cybernet events, especially those originating from outside the country. Besides, the response of the govt to this horrendous but not unexpected discovery has been pathetically weak so far.
Why is the govt always caught with its pants down by innovative actions from enemies? The reason is general sloth, incompetence, and most importantly, a complete lack of anticipatory planning.
We used to have a 'lowly' young bhaiyya security guard on contract in the plant where I worked at Mumbai, then Bombay, many years ago. This man was so watchful of the situation even outside the boundary walls, anticipating and telling the manager about potential breaches and new threats, so that preventive action could be taken.
Once I asked this man how he did this and his answer should be a lesson to our entire security establishment. He said his night shift job was so boring that he used to think and plan about how to breach the security of the plant or steal items! As a result, he was familiar with every inch of the plant and was able to anticipate many things no one had thought about and helped improve the security tremendously.
A man like him should have been heading India's security!!!
This is a convenient way for the incompetent Home Ministry to wash off
it's hand to find the real truth. By throwing the suspicion as usual to
Pak, and diverting the people. Nobody would flee by seeing those
websites. All Pak operations inside India take place through Indian hand.
Which is that hand? I leave to your conclusion.
The problem with our national leaders is that they cannot see anything beyond Pakistan. And that is exactly the reason why the Bangladeshis are having a field day in Assam and the rest of India. The enemity with Pakistan is so deep rooted that anywhere some incident happens that threatens the national integrity , our leaders see Pakistan everywhere. They just cannot seem to understand the fact that Bangladesh is playing a greater role in this. There are already 5 crore Bangladeshis in India and they have every reason to give the Assam riot a communal face for their vested interest. Please wake up ministers and learn to see beyond Pakistan also.
How ironic that we blame Pakistan for every thing,if Pakistanies have become so
influential that they can incite violence in India from Islamabad ,and if we are
acknowledging that than we are doomed.Tomorrow they could incite massacres in all
Muslim majority states. We should look deep into the matter and acknowledge our
shortcomings. Has Assam or Northeast been treated fairly, didn't our main parties
play the game of vote bank, who disturbed the demographics of Assam, these are the
questions to be answered. Giving Pakistanies such capability would be surrendring
India.
