An emotional BJP veteran L.K. Advani on Monday hailed the poetic skills of the former Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, and said though he could recite poems, he could never write one.
Addressing a gathering at the release of ‘Impressions', a collection of poems by senior parliamentarian Najma Heptullah, Mr. Advani said had Mr. Vajpayee been in good health, he would have requested Ms. Heptullah to invite him for the launch of the book.
“I can recite poems by Vajpayee ... I have not written even a single piece of poetry, though I have written a lot,” Mr. Advani said.
He also recited a couple of stanzas from Mr. Vajpayee's poems.
Mr. Advani said actor Aamir Khan, who was present on the occasion, would have been a better choice for the launch of ‘Impressions.'
“Poetry is painting in words ... I don't know whether Aamir is a painter, but he certainly is an artist,” the BJP leader said after launching the book. Aamir, nephew of Heptullah, attended the function along with his wife Kiran Rao. He also recited some of the poems from ‘Impressions.'
