A happy Zakia hopes for justice

April 07, 2010 12:36 am | Updated November 18, 2016 03:01 pm IST - AHMEDABAD:

Zakia Jaffrey, widow of the slain former Congress MP Ehsan Jaffrey, has expressed happiness over the Supreme Court order asking IPS officers Geeta Johri and Shivanand Jha to dissociate themselves from the SIT investigations into the 2002 communal riots cases, until further orders.

Ms. Jaffrey, who is in Surat, said she always opposed Gujarat cadre IPS officers probing the riot cases for fear of a partisan approach.

Now that they had been removed from the investigation team, she expressed hope that justice would be done to the victims.

Several voluntary organisations supporting the victims, including the Mumbai-based Citizens for Justice and Peace, also expressed strong reservations about the inclusion in the SIT of the Gujarat cadre IPS officers. They wanted re-investigation done entirely by police officers from outside the State.
