Vigorously defending the hike in the prices of petroleum products, the Congress said the bandh sponsored by the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and the Left parties was a “complete flop.”
Party spokesperson Abhishek Singhvi, accusing the Opposition parties of causing inconvenience to the ‘aam aadmi,' in whose name the bandh had been called, said that but for the States in which the Opposition parties were in power, the bandh call had failed to get a response.
The BJP, he said, was used to speaking with a “forked tongue” on the issue, while recalling that the prices of petroleum products were increased repeatedly — between 1998 and 2004, when the NDA coalition was in power. The price of petrol had been increased 25 times, and kerosene four times then, he stressed. Taking a swipe at the Left parties, he “congratulated” them on not minding being the “bedfellows of the ultra right,” the BJP.
