The thirteenth President of India Pranab Mukherjee will bid adieu to the office on July 25, 2017 when the new President Mr. Ram Nath Kovind will be sworn in.
Mr. Mukherjee, who assumed office on July 25, 2012, has an illustrious political career which began in 1969. Since then, he has served as the Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission, Minister of Commerce, Minister of External Affairs, Minister of Defence and Minister of Finance. He was a member of the Congress Working Committee for 23 years.
Hailing from West Bengal, Mr. Mukherjee worked as a college teacher and a journalist for a Bengali newspaper before joining politics. His father was a freedom fighter and member of the Congress party.
