My five - Anirudh Srinivasan

Red Hot Chili Peppers

My Friends

A song for many moods and feelings, it’s a song which can get you into depression or out of it. The song recollects bassist Flea’s difficult times when he was going through his post-divorce period.

Iron Maiden

Dance of Death

A song that sends chills down your spine everytime you listen to it. A song with unforgettable lyrics and lead work, by far the most under-rated Iron Maiden song ever.

Led Zeppelin

Kashmir

One of the earliest odd-time signature songs, it was written over a period of three years dating back to 1973. The awesome riffs along with the beautiful use of the violin is one of the main attractions of this song.

Rush

Tom Sawyer

This music-defining song of the 1980s, which was inspired by the fictional literary character is arguably the band’s most popular song. It heavily revolves around Geddy Lee’s work on the synthesiser and on various drumming patterns expressed by Niel Peart.

Suzanne Vega

Tom’s Diner

The song is about a restaurant in New York and has one of the most attractive tunes ever. It featured in an album of different variations of the same song. Suzanne Vega’s brilliance shines through in this track

Those that almost made it

Dream Theater: Metropolis

Meshuggah: New Millennium Cyanide Christ

Megadeth: Tornado of Souls

Eluveitie: Inis Mona

Mudvayne: Dig

(Anirudh Srinivasan is a student of National Public School, Indira Nagar, Bangalore, musician and fan of music.)
