BAND NAME The Previous Band

FORMED 2009 February

LINE UP Prashanth Mathias (guitar), Keshav Dhanraj (drums), Krishnan Swaminathan (bass), Rohith Abraham (effects / keyboard) and Venkat Subramaniam (vocals)

THEY CALL IT Electro-alternative with a hint of Indian influence

ROAD SO FAR “After silence, that which comes nearest to expressing the inexpressible is music.” — Aldous Huxley. It was these words that shaped the young minds who went on to form The Previous Band. “The idea for The Previous Band was formed when Nerverek broke up,” says Keshav Dhanraj, drummer of the band. “Rohith and I started the band. Rohith is into dark trance, Prashanth and Krishnan are mainly into jazz and metal. Metal-heads don’t like pop; Pop guys don’t like metal. So we thought we’ll incorporate all of these and make a band that everybody will appreciate.” The band was born four days before the show at Saarang, and we made it to the finals. “When we were thinking of a name, we wanted them to call us onstage with, we thought it would be cool if they were going to call ‘The Previous Band’ on stage, and confuse the band that had just played. We’ve played in Puducherry for SecSat (they have a gig every second Saturday of the month), we’ve played at Lexus, but now, Krishnan and Prashanth are going to Musician’s Institute, L.A., Hollywood, for a year-and-a-half to learn music. I plan to shift to Mumbai to work with music directors.”

MUSIC “We’ve made six to seven songs, we’ve recorded three songs, and put them up online. We’re not releasing an album till we find a proper producer and take our music internationally. There’s an Indian sound in our music because we grew up listening to Indian music.”
