For gourmets The buffet at SP Grand Days
Five months after its launch, SP Grand Days at Panavila Junction is already creating waves for its mouth-watering buffets at Grandeur Restaurant – that too at an affordable cost!
With a myriad of authentic, regional, tongue-tingling flavours, the SP Grand Days’ buffet has a large spread – be it grilled, barbecued, skewered, fried or curried. The food is characteristic of the different regions of Kerala, such as Kuttanad, Malabar ..., as well as the distinct cuisines of Hyderabad, Gujarat and Chettinad.
International flavours such as Chinese, Japanese, Thai, Italian and even Arabic cuisine find their way into the elaborate menu.
Says Sudhan Damu, general manager of SP Grand Days: “Our buffet lunch and dinner menu vary from day to day with six non-vegetarian and 10 vegetarian dishes on offer along with four soups, 11 salads and 14 desserts for lunch. The dinner buffet has more of non-vegetarian continental dishes including Italian pasta."
Gourmets can choose from dishes such as succulent chicken in black bean sauce, scrumptious fish Irani kebab, creamy murg lajawab, multi-spiced Travancore fish curry and beef fry, mouth-watering fried jumbo prawns, karimeen pollichathu and delicious oyster fried with rice flour, Nanchinad kozhy perattiyathu and Hyderabadi biriyani.
Vegans have not been overlooked, says chef Mohandas. Crunchy crackling potatoes marinated in Chinese sauce and fried and sprinkled with red chilly flakes leave the palate tingling!
There is plenty to choose from – vegetable shahi korma, kathrikkai rasavangi, dal masala and vegetable Jalfrezi, to name a few, are a vegetarian’s delight! Then there is avial, sambar, thoran, kappa and vegetable stew if you want to go ethnic.
Soups and salads
Soups and salads are a complete meal by itself at the SP! With as many as 11 varieties, the salad bar is every weight watcher’s delight although not all the salads are free from creamy sauces. However the delicate flavours and fresh fruits and vegetables make you forgetful about the calories.
Soups too are not far behind in variety or flavour – organic Nilgiri herbal soup made out of a variety of herbs, fatless tomato soup, Tom Yam Kai soup and Mont Morency soup are sure to wake up the most jaded palate and are recommended as starters.
Those with the sweet tooth can indulge in the desserts that include orange mousse cake, fig pie, French chocolate cake and marble mousse.
Lunch (12 noon to 3 p.m.) is Rs. 300 plus taxes for a person while dinner is Rs. 365 (7 p.m. to 11 p.m.) plus taxes.
