The nose story Shilpa Shetty’s glamorous look inspires many
You are camera friendly, love acting, have recently won a beauty pageant and movie offers are pouring in. The screen test says you have that dream frame. Your dance moves meet the choreographer’s jhatkas and matkas. But there is a hitch — the producer says he wants ‘deep’ dimples when you smile.
A dimple or an extra mole on a well-defined jaw-line is not that difficult to acquire. Increasingly, producers and model co-ordinators are making sure starlets and budding models get a few corrections done before signing them on.
Million-dollar smile
A director signed a 19-year-old actor on condition she agreed to undergo a prosthodontic surgery. Though her screen test was okay, she didn’t look too good when she smiled.
“When I smiled my canine teeth would show and this made me look awful on screen. I agreed to remedy my smile and bagged the movie offer,” says the actor.
While it is common knowledge that actors go under the knife to enhance their looks, what is shocking is even those beginning their careers are opting for surgery.
When the not-so-attractive Karisma Kapoor in “Prem Qaidi” reappeared in “Raja Hindustani” (RH), she stunned cine-goers. In a bid to exploit modern techniques, Lolo didn’t stop there; post “RH”, she wowed the audience with her looks in “Dil to Pagal Hai”.
Ayesha Takia of “Tarzan - The Wonder Car” oozed oomph when she made her debut in the Telugu film industry. It raised eyebrows, but it also provided food for ‘makeover’ thought.
Things would have been simpler if most of them had the courage of a Shilpa Shetty or a Rakhi Sawant to admit the obvious.
Becoming fair is an obsession with young girls. Most say they want to try their luck at modelling or in movies. While there are filling treatments for marks, there are procedures to lift sagging face and body parts.”
With talent shows coming up at the drop of a hat and directors trying out new faces who would want to miss an opportunity? Says Sanjana, an aspiring actor, “If no one approaches us, we meet casting agencies and hand over our portfolios. These agencies give us feedback which varies from ‘need to look plump’ to ‘require a change in facial structure’.”
Facial aesthetic surgeon Milind Naik was surprised at the response he got to botox treatments. “Mostly young men and women come to us when they need quick fix solutions. “ I have worked on several stars for jaw-line definition, and to remove lines on the forehead and bags under the eyes. With cut-throat competition no one wants to be left behind. We get at least five queries a week from up and coming actors and youngsters.”
LIP SERVICE
Rakhi Sawant wanted a pout to look sexy, so she had botox treatment done on her lips.
Recently there were rumours that Esha Deol underwent a lip correction surgery.
