Maximus ‘Crusoe’ Stephen, formerly known as Crusoe, is a honey-coloured dog with a sweet temperament, raised by construction workers who left him behind when they moved on to another site. The residents of the building were put in charge of finding him a permanent home and spread the word that their Robinson Crusoe was looking for his Man Friday. They were thrilled when Sneha Stephen decided to make him the newest member of her family that already has two dogs, Chip and Fluff.
In this ‘Max Update’, Sneha offers us a sneak peek into the dynamics between her much-loved pets.
“It’s reassuring that Max is doing very well. His confidence level has gone up, his fur is looking much better (thanks to a very smelly application of haldi and coconut oil), his tummy looks like a little pot and his ratty little tail is constantly wagging.
He has taken to tugging affectionately at mom’s kurta or pretty much anything in a really cute manner. Last night, he spent about an hour digging up the roots of the tree in the yard and proceeded to gnaw at them maniacally.
One of the holes he dug went pretty deep, and our little hero decided to poke his face right in with his hind legs hanging up in the air. He looked hilarious! Fluff watches him like a disapproving mother-in-law regardless of the many friendly advances that Max makes towards him. Chip is just wondering where this little nut has arrived from. He’s got the ‘Is this guy for real?’ expression whenever Maximus is around.
He’s still a little nervous around strange noises or sudden movements, but I’m sure that’ll change soon. He sleeps with Chip and Fluff in my parents’ room on a little chequered cloth.
Happy to report that he’s eating well. He eats his share in a flash and then proceeds to eat Chip’s share (which he doesn’t seem to mind) and then Fluff’s share (which he gets very annoyed about). It’s all very funny, although Fluff doesn’t appreciate the humour one bit. I could go on for days about the three little idiots but in a nutshell, Max is quite happy and so am I”.
In a post script, Sneha adds: “I’m typing this mail with one hand because the other is being chewed on by the great Maximus”.
HERO OF THE WEEK
This week’s superhero is Suchitra of Alwarpet. She has been raising several handicapped cats in her apartment complex single-handedly. Her pets include cats with paralysed limbs, failing vision or those recovering from serious injuries. Thanks to Suchitra, these cats with special needs have a great quality of life and couldn’t be happier.
