Film treat from Russia

The Russian Centre for Science and Culture, Indo Cine Appreciation Foundation and Indo Russian Film Club organise a Russian Film Festival from October 21 to 24 at the Centre’s premises.

On the opening day, the film, “Wizards” will be screened at 6.30 p.m. Directed by Konstantin Bromberg, the film is about love in the life of witches.

“Irony of Fate”, to be screened on October 22 at 6.30 p.m., is directed by Eldar Ryazanov. This comedy is about how the lives of two friends turns topsy-turvy after they become unconscious on New Year’s eve after several shots of vodka.

“Evening On A Farm Near Dikanka” will be screened at 6.15 p.m. on October 23. Directed by Semen Gorov, it is a tale of beautiful Oxana who sends Vakula, who loves her, on a wild-goose chase for dancing shoes to the Imperial Palace in St. Petersburg.

“The Fair Barbara With Silken Hair” will be screened the same evening at 7.45 p.m.

Directed by Aleksandr Rou, it is about how the idyllic life of a powerful Czar is turned upside down when he stares into a well and finds himself confronted by a subterranean ruler.

“The Tale Of Tsar Saltan”, to be screened on October 24 at 6.15 p.m. is directed by Ivan Ivanov-Vano and Lev Milchin. It is based on a classic poem by Alexander Pushkin. When Tsar Saltan is away at war, the scheming members of his court exile his young wife and newborn heir. The Tsarina and the young prince Guidon survive and reach a remote island. Guidon saves the beautiful Princess Swan from an evil sorcerer and through a series of miracles she helps the prince to reunite with his father.

“Father Frost”, the concluding film of the fest, will be screened at 7.30 p.m. Directed by Aleksandr Rou, it is about a beautiful, abused girl, Nastenka, and Ivan, a strong, proud young man, who fall in love, and how their life unfolds.
