Raksha Hospice for terminally ill cancer patients
|
October 8 is observed as World Hospices and Palliative Care day. It is estimated that there are more than 8 million people in India who could benefit from palliative care services.
However, more often than not, they are unable to take this as an alternative form of care. This may be due to economic restraints or plain ignorance of these available services. In Coimbatore, Raksha provides hospice care to terminally ill cancer patients.
Any patient with cancer can come here when the treating doctor has informed that his/her disease is not responding to the treatment.
Raksha provides trained multi professionals who are responsible for an outpatient clinic, an inpatient service, a day-care service, a home care programme, help-line, counselling, lending of nursing items for home use and motivation for eye donations. Raksha offers an extension of the services available at the Valavadi Narayanaswamy Cancer Centre at GKNM Hospital.
On Monday, October 6, Raksha celebrates Hospice day. There will be a release of a book Proud to belong that is made up of stories inspired by the inmates of Raksha.
The function begins with a prayer at 2 p.m and ends with the National Anthem at 4.30 p.m, at the Raksha Campus. Everyone is invited. For details contact 0422 4305241, 2211000, 2213501, extn: 507, or write to the HRD Department Administrative Block, GKNM Hospital, Post Box 6327, Coimbatore 641037.
