Catch up with an Ingmar Bergman retrospective

A Tribute Ingmar Bergman

It was an occasion, on which film fanatics turned up to acknowledge the genius of a man, better known as the greatest cinematic artist ever. Yes, it was indeed the occasion of the master Swede — Ingmar Bergman’s first death anniversary. P alador Pictures organised an event in association with the Embassy of Sweden, as a tribute to the maestro who is accredited with producing some of the most iconic films in the world.

Ingmar Bergman Collector’s Edition 5 DVD Box Set was launched on the occasion by H.E. Lars-Olof Lindgren the Ambassador of Sweden with Gunnar Bergdahl, director of two documentaries on Bergman and also a very close friend of the filmmaker.

“The event ‘Remembering Bergman — A Retrospective’ is a tribute to the inspiration and influence that Bergman’s films provide to a host of filmmakers and audiences across the world,” says Gautam Sikhnis, Founder and Managing Director, Palador Pictures.

“I was lucky to have had the opportunity to share some time with him. He might be gone now, but his passion for the possibilities and challenges of filmmaking will be inspiring forever. In fact, I once asked, ‘Mr Bergman, don’t you ever tire of watching all these films?’ He laughed and said, ‘Filmmaking is an expanding universe. The more you look, the more you find!” recounts Gunnar Bergdahl.

The films on the DVD box set are, “Music in Darkness”, “Summer With Monika”, “Through a Glass Darkly”, “Winter Light” and a freewheeling interview with Ingmar Bergman — as a special feature. The film festival will also showcase “Wild Strawberries”, “Summer Interlude” and “Devil’s Eye”. It continues till the 14th of August and then moves on to Kolkata, Chennai, Bangalore, Pune and Mumbai.
