Silence, please!
The article “Hey! Stop That! (MetroPlus, July 10) made great reading. Being an employee of a city corporate, I could not but agree with the writer’s views.
It is true that i-Pods, cell-phones and cubicle discussions have begun to affect work efficiency and output to quite an extent these days. Companies would do well to devise ways to stop this undesirable trend.

A brand new era
“The Beckoning Brands” (MetroPlus, July 14) made one sit up and realise that Chennai has changed. No more do people have to fly to Mumbai, Singapore or Dubai to shop for designer wear or order it through websites. A stroll down Khader Nawaz Khan Road with an empty shopping bag and a full purse is enough to fetch you some of the top labels. Exhibitions such as Brands4Less which the writer mentioned in the article are also a great boon for fashionistas in the city.

Happy memories
The item “House of Luz” in historian S. Muthiah’s column (Madras Miscellany, MetroPlus, July 14) revived in me happy memories of Mylapore.
I remembered how I used to walk with my grandfather along the stretch between Luz and Alwarpet corner. He would show me the houses where Patanjali Sastri, S. Srinivasa Iyengar, Dr. Vasudeva Rao and other luminaries of yesteryear Madras lived and would narrate interesting anecdotes about them.
“House of Luz” made me feel as if I was walking on that very road, imbibing the pleasantly strong aroma of Amruthanjan while experiencing the quiet and tranquillity of Arathan Kuttai.
The other piece “A Wodehouse Revival” (also in Miscellany, July 14) filled me with pleasure, as I too happen to be a Wodehouse fan.

Good old times
Just loved the piece “A little food for thought” in the Wellness pages (MetroPlus dated July 17). Yes, those good old times when the family used to bond over meals are gone.
In our hurry to chase our dreams, we are losing out on the niceties of life. Even simple things like having dinner together — at the table — seems to be a bother in many households.
Firstly, we have erratic work schedules. Then, there’s the television or the computer to drive us away from the table. And as the writer had pointed out, multitasking at mealtimes is a bane. I’ve often ended up eating much more than I should when I have distractions at dinner time.

Run for fun
The annual coverage of the Citizen’s Run (MetroPlus dated July 23) made great reading. It was very different in approach — and reported the event like a story with interesting sequences. Congrats to your team. It was clear that though they did not want to run, they were bent on having fun. And that made all the difference. Wish there were suitable pictures to capture the sequence of events.
