New York-based Concrete Temple Theatre organises a voice, movement and performance workshop for theatre professionals on August 8

Concrete Temple Theatre, a New York-based theatre group, will present “The Whale” based on Herman Melville’s Moby Dick at The Hindu MetroPlus Theatre Fest on August 7, 2008. Their visit to Chennai is co-sponsored by The Hindu MetroPlus and the U.S. Consulate General, Chennai.

Concrete Temple Theatre will lead “A Voice, Movement and Performance Workshop: Page to Stage” for theatre professionals in Chennai on August 8 from 3 p.m. to 5.30 p.m. at Women’s Christian College (Assembly Hall), College Road.

The workshop will introduce participants to the skill of adapting by using snippets of Concrete Temple’s adaptation of Melville’s Moby Dick for illustration. Participants will be asked at the beginning of the workshop to select text that they themselves would like to put into a different form, be it theatre, film, TV, or visual arts and will conclude with the members sharing their own ideas for an adaptation.

Concrete Temple Theatre is a multi-disciplinary company that emphasises the creation of compelling new theatre works, incorporating drama, dance, puppetry and the visual arts, which focus on the individual’s struggle for identity and society’s struggle for cohesion. Through touring original work and presenting performances and workshops in NYC, nationally, and internationally, Concrete Temple Theatre strives to make connections and opportunities for diverse audiences to question and examine their place in the world.

Concrete Temple Theatre’s Artistic Directors, Carlo Adinolfi and Renee Philippi, have led workshops and taught skills to professional and amateur actors, children, college students, community groups, as well as senior citizens and peers. They have taught courses at universities as well as in museums, festivals, and in theatres.

Those interested in participating in this workshop can contact 98412 72073, or email: ChennaiPASPrograms@state.gov for registration.
