Jung and the soul of India
|
An interactive presentation on one of the world’s most influential thinkers this Friday at IIC
|
The Embassy of Switzerland is organising a lecture presentation by eminent speakers on Jung and India. The event, which takes place at the Lecture Hall of the India International Centre Annexe on Friday, July 25, from 5 to 8 p.m., is titled Psyche an
d Image: Jung and India.
The evening is described as a dialogue between depth psychology and Indian psyche. Dr. Kusum Dhar Prabhu, Director, The Jung Centre, Bangalore, will speak on “C.G. Jung: Re-souling the world”, while Ruedi Hoegger, Faculty Member, Center for Depth Psychology, Zürich, will talk about “The Buddha and the Naga: Contemplating Jungian images in a Jungian perspective”.
These talks will be followed by an interactive group process with a painting —Meeting the Image — facilitated by the two speakers.
Carl Gustav Jung’s theories have had a profound influence on contemporary thought, extending beyond psychology and psychotherapy to modern theoretical physics, anthropology, history and evolutionary biology. Jung visited India in 1938 as an invitee to the 25th anniversary celebrations of the University of Calcutta.
However, long before this visit he had read a great deal about Indian philosophy and religious history. He was deeply convinced of the value of what Indian thought had to offer to a deeper understanding of psychological reality. His works reflect this encounter with India in many different ways.
Artists, musicians and creative people from different fields have always connected deeply to Jung’s work on the collective unconscious and archetypal reality. Some of the cutting edge discoveries arising from research in the neurosciences bear out Jung’s theories on the working of the unconscious and archetypal functioning.
The IIC event is supported by the Swiss Confederation.
