Deep Purple
Never Before
Though there are some great songs from this band with unbelievable riffs from Ritchie Blackmore’s Fender Stratocaster stamped all over them, this track from the album Machine Head gives just enough time for rock gods Blackmore on guitar and Jon Lord on keyboards for a short yet sweet sounding solos backed by some deft footwork and absolutely tight drumming by Ian Paice.
Pink Floyd
Comfortably Numb
This track could well be for that real high — it’s the purest and most unadulterated form of rock that one could ask for — with two guitar solos by David Gilmour, of which the final solo is his best ever. This track for me is an ‘experience’ every single time I listen to it.
Jethro Tull
Songs from the Wood
This title song of the eponymous album, which starts off with some incredible sounding folkish vocal arrangements incorporated with complex elements of classical, folk, jazz and art rock, truly reflects the versatility and multi talented Ian Anderson’s capabilities and the band itself. The very sound of this awesome song and the picture of Ian standing on one leg with his flute, performing live is the ultimate experience for any Tull fan.

Rosanna
Written by the band leader David Paich about the keyboard player, Steve Pocaro’s girlfriend Rosanna who is said to have brought food to the band at the studio, this Grammy winning song with a unique ‘shuffle’ beat by Jeff Porcaro, one of the finest drummers of all times and with incredible solos by both the Steves’ on guitar and keyboards, grows on you, to be comfortably one of the best ever.
Carlos Santana
Stand up
A perfect, racy track with Santana’s signature sound fusing rock, jazz and blues styles and a terrific dose of some awesome percussion work that leaves you asking for more. The ‘runnin’ track with the bass solo that follows is a ‘must listen’ for every dude that wants to be a bassist.
