Of works by S. Jayaraj at Lakshana Aarts

Figurative idiom One of the works of S. Jayaraj

S. Jayaraj is holding an exhibition of his paintings till July 24 at the Lakshana Museum of Aarts, 8, Judge Jambulingam Street, Mylapore. The exhibition is open between 10.30 a.m. and 7 p.m.

Jayaraj, who holds a Bachelor’s degree in Visual Communication Design from the Government College of Arts, Chennai, has a flair for the figurative idiom. His abstract paintings are a harmony of colours that portray serenity, solitude and joy. He has several awards to his credit, both in commercial art and painting. His painting, “A Day at the Airport”, was adjudged the best by veteran artist M. F. Hussain at an on-the-spot painting competition organised by the International Airport Authority of India in 1987.

His pencil sketch on street children which he presented to the President of India, A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, last year, is displayed in the Museum of Rashtrapati Bhavan.
