|
UNIQUE PRESENTATION From one of the plays
Prakriti Foundation is organising "Hamara Shakespeare" from February 23-25, 7 p.m., at the Museum Theatre, Egmore. What is unique about the festival is Shakespeare will be presented in Indian languages. This year, three plays will be presented in Malayalam, Marathi and Hindi.
The festival will open on February 23 with "Romeo and Juliet" in Malayalam by the School of Drama, Calicut. It is designed and directed by Thulaseedhara Kurup, an NSD graduate.
On February 24, "Jungle Mein Mangal," an adaptation of "A Midsummer Night's Dream," will be staged by Awishkar, Mumbai. It is directed by writer-actor-director Chetan Datar. It has been adapted in the tamasha folk form of Maharashtra and there is a surprise element in the form of cross-casting.
On February 25, "The Magic Hour" in Khelkali will be presented by Arjun Raina and Monica Singh from Delhi. It is a performance in magic realism in dance theatre combining two stories "Othello" and "A Midsummer Night's Dream." Khelkali uses the elaborate costume, music, song, dance and theatricality of Kathakali and combines it with spoken and enacted scenes from Shakespeare.
