Making waves

Hyderabadi deejays Amit Saxena and Anupam Raj present a Bollywood remixes cover

THE TRENDSETTERS Anupam Raj and Amit Saxena

Their debut remix cover was a blend of popular Bollywood dialogues and hits titled Dhol and Dialogues, which they later followed up with Rajasthani Lounge. Hyderabadi DJs Amit Saxena and Anupam Raj come together with a mainstream Bollywood remix album Strictly Bollywood Remix's now. Already the track Lambi Judaai from the cover is riding on airwaves with city FM stations playing it for their Hindi pop listeners. More on the album, in a market filled with remixes, the cover stands out for its numbers. "These songs have n't been remixed earlier," says Amit. Adds Anupam, "We used lots of instruments, tabla and flute for one, which I haven't seen in other remix covers that mostly use keyboards for the live element."

The album features vocalists and musicians from the city coming together for the album, notably Pallavi Suri on lead vocals and Murli on the flute. "This is essentially fusion music that we presented in the remix format," says Amit.

Lining up a cover in 40 days was not a simple job says the duo. "You need to hear the original song before you come up with a remix for it. For example Lambi Judaai is a melancholic song. Now you cannot make it a dance anthem. Yet you need to give it a contemporary feel and that's a challenge," says Amit.

The cover spans various decades and blockbusters for its songs, from a Shri 420 to a Sargam, from a Jab Jab Phool Khile to a Jaanbaaz. Find here remixes of Sunita Rao as well.

And as for the sound, both deejays bring together their musical preferences, Amit's club, house and trance blend with Pink Floyd buff Anupam's rock sensibilities in every track. Drop in at the music store closer home to get a cover. Plans ahead say the two trendsetters, "remixes of Telugu hits." For the moment it's strictly Bollywood.
