Geared up to make a splash

After a lull, Sindura has found a way to navigate her career in the direction she aspired for, says P. SUJATHA VARMA

RARING TO GO Cashing in on her title, the beauty queen is keeping her fingers crossed

The babe who scorched the international ramp and walked into the hearts of millions is all set to register her entry in the glitzy Bollywood with her debut film, Hey Baby!

City lass Gadde Sindura will be part of the Hindi multi-starrer, scheduled for release in June. Paired opposite Akshay Kumar, she dons the role of an NRI girl who visits India for a friend's wedding and bumps into other characters of the movie, which include Fardeen Khan, Hritesh Deshmukh and Vidya Balan. "The King Khan (Shah Rukh) might do an item number in the film," she says excitedly.

Complete makeover

The mascara, lip-gloss, eyeliner, kajal and the blush are intact, demonstrating how make-up can transform a girl-next-door into a svelte beauty. "It is uplifting to see how the fashion trend has caught the imagination of the once-conservative city-dwellers," she says running her well-manicured fingers through her shiny mane. Quiz her about the storyline of her maiden film and she is only too eager to blurt out: "The entire story revolves round a four-month-old baby. Vidya Balan is the mother of the child. It is a very interesting and an altogether a different plot," she gushes like a schoolchild.

Surviving criticism that she was just a flash in the pan, Sindura says she used the past year to gain experience by developing contacts in the showbiz.

Telugu films

A mere reference to Telugu films is enough to enthuse Sindura who feels she is more close to Telugu film industry than the Bollywood. "Telugu films have very few Telugu-speaking heroines. I have good chance of making it big here because of my mother tongue," she says. But why then did she choose a Hindi film for a debut? Despite projecting her interest in Telugu films, the Miss India World-2005 is yet to get an offer from a prominent producer. Rama Naidu and Puri Jagannadh are some of the big names she would like to be associated with. "Among actors, Mahesh Babu, Nagarjuna and Venkatesh are going great guns," she spells out her preferences.

Fingers crossed

She's an easy to please soul and readily lets people into her new world of glitz and glamour. But doesn't the fear of being lost in the crowd of established names in Bollywood bog her down? "Exposure is more important. I am happy to be part of the multi-starrer. I'd rather be a small part of the big pie than doing a big role in a small project," she observes prudently. Realizing that the film industry today is guided by a different set of rules, Sindura is not as much worried about the star cast as she is about the maker of the movie.

Equipped with a double degree in pharmacology and physiology and a diploma in modeling, besides the experience of hosting a TV show in New Zealand, the Vijayawada-bred girl has come all the way leaving her parents, friends and well-wishers to test her luck in Indian glamour world.

Allowing her bohemian spirit shine through her strikingly attractive persona, the beauty queen has learnt to speak a new language after she gamely stepped into the shoes of a budding actress.
