Dining with the dolphins

Dolphin's Point at Hotel Taj Malabar offers a unique dining experience

WATERFRONT WONDER Both ambience and cuisine

A restaurant named `Dolphin's Point' would sound more like an ornamental coinage and less like a sun kissed locale from where you can see these legendary mammals. So it comes as a pleasant surprise when Amit Ghosh, Executive chef of Hotel Taj Malabar actually vouches for their presence in and around the waters that hug the hotel's seasonal restaurant, `Dolphin's Point'.

"Dolphin's Point" offers versatility both in its ambience and cuisine. The joie de vivre of an outdoor dinner is enhanced as you enjoy the luxury of an "outdoor kitchen" where you can watch your choice cooked in marinades that you desire.

An array of seafood, poultry and meat await at your behest to be marinated, flavoured, grilled and served. These range from continental specialties like Beef beaujolais and rosemary soaked (slices of beef marinated in red wine and dipped in rosemary) or the Teriyaki pork chops. Seafood selections include squid with thyme and garlic, cinnamon and tangerine tuna and the likes.

For someone favouring the local spicy flavouring, a marinade of that blend is also a part of the wish list, points out Amit.

The clay oven offers a different choice altogether with our very own Tandoori murg, Tiranga paneer, gosht nukti kebab (coined after a community in UP).

The greens platter bestows on you a medley of oriental Rice salad, Florida salad, Gado Gado, and Italian herb vegetable salad.

To add a bit of a shimmer, a choice of garlic with vinegar, Homuz and herb salad toppings are offered. The breadbasket, an assortment of soft and hard bread, has the likes of Oat crusted bread, cheese sliced bread and other varieties to choose from.

Dessert, a potpourri of delight with chocolate fantasies like Dark and White chocolate gateau, coconut chocolate squares and local favourites like gulab jamun and gajar halwa, brings this connoisseur's voyage to its befitting end.

Dining with dolphins is a rare affair and it quite naturally comes at a price. For one person it is Rs.1, 100 plus taxes with unlimited Kingfisher beer and for kids it comes at Rs.600 plus taxes with unlimited mocktails.
