Wolfgang Haffner and his group will perform on December 6

Music lovers in the city can look forward to an evening of jazz rock on December 6, 7 p.m. at Dublin, ITC Park Sheraton Hotels and Towers, TTK Road. The concert, organised by the Max Mueller Bhavan, will showcase the Wolfgang Haffner Group with Wolfgang Haffner on the drums, Sebastian Studnitzky on trumpet and piano, Christian Diener on e-bass and Frank Kuruc on guitar. For details, contact 2833 1314/2343. Wolfgang Haffner, son of a church musician, was born in 1965 in Wunsiedel, Germnay. He was only 18 when he received a call from legendary German trombonist Albert Mangelsdorff who invited him to join his band. For about 20 years, Haffner played the drums in Albert's band. He also played in Klaus Doldinger's Passport and with the famous combo Old Friends comprising German jazz veterans Mangelsdorff, Wolfgang Dauner, Manfred Schoof and Eberhard Weber.
Haffner is one of the most prominent among the new generation of German jazz musicians. He is an internationalist when it comes to drums and jazz and has recorded with a range of American artistesWith his most recent quartet, Haffner plays groove-based music, which focusses on smooth interaction between bass and drums to produce clear rhythmic motives. In Shapes, his current album, the band celebrates a kind of contemporary jazz rock, which is also like dance music, influenced by hip-hop, trip-hop and by the Norwegian scene.
