Made up for winters

Makeup artist Jojo and stylist Yatan Ahluwalia dish out some tips for the winter

SNAZZY Make up is the key

Low profile and letting his work speak for himself, makeup artist Jojo has been consulting for some of the biggest. In town for a fashion show, he shares a few tips on how to get the winter right.

Jojo's rule of the thumb is that colder colours like blues, purples and greens don't suit people with a darker skin tone, while these colours are okay for lighter skin tones. This rule applies to all colour makeup in general — lipsticks, eye shadows, eyeliners and mascara.

Jojo explains that the nude or the `no makeup look' is still in. The nude looks is basically when you use lots of artfully applied makeup to look like who haven't used any! The result is a fresh, dewy look. Jojo suggests that you use mascara, a pale lip colour or a lip stain for the day look. Use a well-blended foundation to smoothen out your face for the night.

For those of us who use our fingers for easier blending, Jojo has a strict rule. "Never ever use your fingers. Body heat melts the makeup between your fingers and it's texture changes." Finger streaks that you may not notice also end up on your face.

But, he says, nothing beats good nutrition, using good quality products and ones that are chemical free. His favourite brands for skin care and makeup are YSL, Chanel and Susan Soaps and more.

According to Jojo, the basics your makeup kit should ideally contain are: Brushes, mascara, eye shadow, blush and lip colour.

Clothes and more

Stylist Yatan Ahluwalia has also styled for some of the biggest names in the industry, done magazines and is a consultant in India with international brands. His style tips for winter are centred on feeling good. "If you feel good about what you are wearing, then you carry yourself with confidence."

Yatan says layering your clothes works best for winter. If you have a tall, thin structure, you can try the balloon look in tops or dresses. Boots are unacceptable for the day.

"In terms of colours, white is still a colour for the season. But the emphasis definitely is on feeling comfortable." For an evening out in Hyderabad, a light shawl with a dress works well.
