Call Centre

SUNDER RAMACHANDRAN

Undergraduates

in call centres

Due to financial problems I could not complete my degree. I am currently learning data entry and can speak English well. Will a call centre consider me even if I'm not a graduate?

Mohammed Asif

A lot of BPOs hire undergraduates as long as they can communicate well in English. You must attend interviews as most BPOs also have educational assistance policies. They would be able to sponsor your education as long as you are loyal to the organisation. If you communicate well, it could be a blessing in disguise as you can find and complete your education.

Inbound Vs. outbound

I have recently received a job offer from a call centre and they have inbound as well as outbound processes? My friends who are already working in call centres tell me that I should not choose outbound processes as it's very difficult to perform in them. What is your advice?

Govind Naganur

Companies use both inbound as well as outbound set ups to engage and communicate with customers. Inbound call centres usually deal with an existing customer base while outbound centres are used for sales and to communicate with potential customers. A lot of outbound call centres are also used for telemarketing activities and that's why your friends may be cautioning you against them. At the end of day it depends on your skills sets and aspirations. If you are good at convincing people and are target driven, a career in outbound call centre could be quite rewarding.

Moving away from night shifts

I am a final year MBA student and have received an offer from a finance company as a loan officer. The job profile involves communicating and selling loans to customers based in the US. I will also have to work in night shifts. Although the salary is attractive, will it be wise for me to take up a BPO job as that could go against me in the long run?

Chakravarty

The BPO industry is now well known for its global standards and practices. Your stint in a BPO will not become a roadblock rather it will equip you with vital service and communication skills that will help you get a head start in your career. If you like the role that has been offered to you, take it up and give it your best.
