Osteo-arthritis camp
The 16th osteo-arthritis camp will be held in Chennai from December 15 to 17 under the guidance of Dr. Vijay Naik and his team of technicians at Mahaveer Bhavan, 77, Pillaiyar Koil Street, Triplicane.
Dr. Naik, the director of the PNR Society for the Relief and Rehabilitation of the Disabled, comes up with innovative procedures to counter the problems faced by those who suffer from osteo-arthritis. According to him, knee braces are an effective alternative to surgery in providing relief to those suffering from acute knee pain.
Dr. Naik travels all over the country to conduct camps to fit these polycentric braces. The braces, costing Rs. 1,000, have to be worn for eight to ten hours a day. The technique behind these braces is to transfer the weight of the knees from the anatomical knee joint to the mechanical polycentric, and prevent further deformity. At the forthcoming camp in the city, Dr. Naik will personally examine each patient and prepare the braces as per his/her requirement. He will also teach them exercises.
The pre-registration for new patients is a must and will be done on December 3 at the venue from 9 a.m. to 12 noon on first-cum-first-serve basis. Old patients can come for review on December 15.
