Meet Kingfisher Swimsuit Special Calendar 2007 model Shamita Singa

RARING TO GO Shamita Singa

Come December and the Indian answer to Pirelli's visual treat, the Kingfisher Swimsuit Special Calendar 2007 will be official. Featuring a bevy of beauties as usual, this time the venue moves to France, the picturesque French Riviera to be precise. And one of the models, Shamita Singa, made waves as she posed next to a killer whale! "It was the most earthshaking experience of my life - standing next to a 40-feet killer whale," says Shamita.

Besides her earlier association with the Animal Welfare Board of India, Shamita has many claims to fame. "I have been associated with animal welfare organisations as a trustee and been working with them since school," adds the literature graduate, who walked into the arc lights as Miss Earth 2001.

"There's been no looking back since," she says as she reads the latest offering from Paulo Coelho `Eleven Minutes.' Other writers she likes are "Alice (`The Color Purple') and Jean P. Sasson (`Daughters of Arabia')."

"I used to write poetry when in school and till recently on fashion and travels," she says. Which brings one back to the recent shoot for the Swimsuit Special. "The shooting was in south of France. We went to Cannes, Nice, Monaco and Monte Carlo. It was splendid. I can't wait for the release of the calendar."

Shamita is as excited about her Motorola commercial with Abhishek Bachchan. "Abhishek is a thorough gentleman and pro to work with. He helped me with my lines and in fact would sit next to the camera to prompt me when I was in the frame," she says.

The future

Any plans of moving to the silver screen? "I am happy where I am. I am big already on the fashion scene. I have walked for the best of designers during fashion weeks and tours. Then I have veejaying that keeps me busy. I also host shows and participate in the associated ground events overseas. B4U is big in London with NRIs," says Shamita.

But close to her heart is the wine academy that she plans to open one day.

"Whenever I get a holiday, I am in France or Spain doing a course in wine. I have been hosting wine tasting sessions and wine etiquette workshops with the corporate groups.Wine is now big in India too," she says. Her mantra of life? "Life is like a bottle of wine. You should savour it till the last drop," she says with a smile.
