UPBEAT Abhijeet Sawant

So, after becoming the first Indian Idol, Abhijeet Sawant has been donning new roles every now and then.

One can see him doing concerts in India and abroad, endorsing products and now, one will hear him as a Radio Jockey. 92.7 BIG FM has chosen him for the role of RJ.

New role

He now hosts their top countdown. The programme went on air this week.

As part of the show he would be interacting with the public and interviewing celebrities.

Excited about the show, the 25-year-old singer says, "When BIG FM offered me this opportunity, I immediately accepted it. I have seen RJs taking interviews. It would be a challenge to do it myself."

For Sawant, the status of the Idol came with lot of responsibilities, some discomfiture and even a controversy.

But he has remained humble though "not so comfortable" being called a star.

"Becoming the Indian idol was a good experience. I got a lot of attention. And it gave me the platformto build my career. But it is just the beginning. It will take me time to establish myself as a great singer. I cannot sit back thinking I have become a star. I try to avoid crowded places. I think of my security before going out."

But there are no regrets.

"I want to take it positively. Recently I bought a new house. My parents are happy about it. Now I'm able to support them," he adds.

His first album, "Aapka Abhijeet Sawant", sold more than one lakh copies on the first day of its release.

After becoming the Indian Idol, Abhijeet travelled across the country and abroad for concerts.

He also sang playback for movies like Aashiq Banaya Aapne, Jawani Diwani and Naughty Boy.

Recently, he was accused of taking a large amount of money from visually challenged people who invited him to sing.

He clarifies that it was all a misunderstanding.

He is currently working on his second album, which will come out around March/April next year.

Abhijeet has also sung for another Bollywood movie called Mumbai.com, which is yet to be released.
