Four Frames

Rocking music

Cameraman-turned-director Jeeva knows the art of making candyfloss love stories laced with peppy numbers shot in music video style that will appeal to the youth. His next film after the super hit "Ullam Ketkume" is also in the same genre. Titled "Unnale Unnale", the film produced by Oscar Films stars a new hero Vinay along with Sada and Tanisha (Kajol's younger sister). The music by Harris Jayaraj is sure to top the charts. Harris has created some romantic melodies in the hip-hop style. Says director Jeeva: "Unnale Unnale" is a vibrant, youthful, musical entertainer. Harris was so impressed with his own work that he created two additional songs for the audio cassette!"

Dhoom-2 vrooms ahead!

Yashraj films and director Sanjay Gadhvi has made "Dhoom" a mega brand. The sequel "Dhoom-2" stylishly shot with knockout action, exotic locations, glamorous heroines and peppy music has taken the best ever opening for a Hindi film in Tamil Nadu and Kerala. From 25 prints, including the Tamil version, the film has netted a whopping Rs. 60 lakh approximately from Tamil Nadu and Rs. 40.5 lakh from 19 prints in Kerala in its opening weekend (November 24 to 26). Trade pundits are predicting that "Dhoom-2" will take a record distributors' share of around Rs. 3 crore from the territory.

Big budget bonanza

The most eagerly awaited Telugu film of the year "Sainikudu" released worldwide on November 30 and has the hot and happening pair Mahesh Babu and Trisha in the lead with Irfan Khan in a pivotal role. The film is directed by Gunasekhar, who made the blockbuster "Okkadu" and the hit "Arjun" with Mahesh. With a budget of Rs. 30 crore, "Sainikudu", produced by Ashwini Dutt, is said to be the costliest film ever made in Telugu. It is an action film set against the backdrop of a college campus and is technically slick with DI (Digital Intermediate) done by Florien Martin, a Hollywood DI specialist, who has been associated with the "Lord of the Rings". "Sainikudu" released in three theatres in Chennai, since Mahesh Babu is a popular Telugu hero in the city.

Gautham's big bash

Recently, director Gautham Menon had a big bash at Dublin in Park Sheraton to launch his new film "Vaaranam Aayiram" featuring Surya in the lead and his favourites such as music director Harris Jayaraj, editor Antony, art director Rajeevan and the first-time cameraman Ratnavelu in the crew. The heroine is yet to be finalised. Produced by Oscar Ravichandran, the film is said to be an action thriller. Says Surya: "This film will take me to the next level. Gautham is a director who understands the nuances of commercial cinema. And he knows to package it right."
