Poetry on phone

An opportunity to recite words and be a poet

INNOVATIVE Letting loose the creative faculty

In Plato's ideal state, `The Republic,' there is an attempt to eradicate poets because `poetry has no serious value or claim to truth.' But with its charming verses and unrivalled craft, poetry has not only survived all odds but also evolved new and different forms - from traditional to modern poetry. Similarly, all human beings, whether they are ecstatic or depressed, always attempt to write verses with a dose of overflowing emotions. But most `poets' confine their words either to their mind or to diary, which often finds place with discarded papers. For those veteran and amateur poets who yearn to publicise their verses, 'Kavithai Sollungal,' a `phone kavithai' contest of Reliance Web World will offer space to voice their talents.

Unique attempt

In fact, the age-old art of poetic expressions has turned a new leaf with the first- ever unique contest exclusively for Reliance subscribers in Tamil Nadu. Hosted on the voice portal platform of Reliance Mobile World, the contest offers an innovative space where the veterans and amateurs can experience their art and mingle freely in the newly found literary medium.

Pa. Vijay, noted lyricist of Tamil filmdom, will play the host to the contest. As soon as the subscribers dial 1234, he/she will be greeted by Pa. Vijay's IVR inviting them to participate in the `Kavithai Sollungal' contest.

Following which the poets can recite their 15 line verse or a poem that lasts for three minutes on the topic `Nambikkai.'

The participant has to record his poem along with his name and contact details for adjudication. A subscriber can record any number of poems on the portal. The charge for accessing the voice portal is Rs.6 per minute. The contest will be available on the Pa. Vijay zone in the voice portal of Reliance Mobile World. Along with the rules of the game and the topic of the contest, the zone will have select songs of the lyricist.

Exciting prizes

Each of the two winning entries will receive a Singapore package as prize and third and fourth winners will each receive a 29-inche colour television. Apart from this, books of Pa. Vijay will be given away as consolation prizes. Announcing the launch of `Kavithai Sollungal' contest, V.G. Somashekar, circle CEO, Tamil Nadu, said, "Reliance has always endeavoured to weave a cultural network with its subscribers that touches their lives. The contest is another unique attempt to bring out the ingenuity and creativity of subscribers while giving them freedom of expressive communication."

Dial 1234 from your or from your friends' Reliance mobile and record your poems. Who knows, you may be a poet. The contest is on till June 28 and the results will be announced on July 1.
