Hanifa Films’ Maaman Machaan, written and directed by M. Jayaraj, has Amudhan, Abinitha, Arun, Monisha, Kovai Radhika, Vellai Pandi Thevar and ‘Bonda’ Mani in important roles. Vijay Thirumoolam has cranked the camera; Sharath Priyadev and Nirmal have scored the music; and V. Sethuramalingam has written the lyrics. Music highlights

The songs tuned by Nirmal — ‘Jaichachu,’ sung by the music director and Arun, ‘Marandiduma,’ sung by Keerthana, and ‘Eduppu Pidiyo,’ sung by Nataraj and Hema, — are above average. ‘Kadhal Enral,’ composed by Sharath Priyadev and sung by Natraj, is good.

What they say…

Producer Mohammed Hanifa: I am in the seafood business in my native place, Panaiyur, near Chennai. When my friend, director Jayaraj, narrated the storyline of Maaman Machaan, I liked it so much that I decided to produce it.

Director M. Jayaraj: I am from Pollachi. I came to Chennai with the dream of becoming a director.

After working as an assistant under various directors, I made my directorial debut with Korathandavam in 2012. When Mohammad Hanifa, who acted in Korathandavam , wanted to make a film, I pitched this story. He liked it, and we went ahead with the shoot and finished the film in six months.

Music director Nirmal: I am a dance master with knowledge of music. I wanted to try my hand at music direction and when director Jayaraj asked me to tune a song for this film, I readily accepted the offer. I have recorded three numbers in the album.

Music director Sharath Priyadev: I have done the musical score for 20 films, including Magan, Chithirai Thirunal and Kaatraai Varuven in Tamil, and other languages. For Maaman Machaan, I’ve composed a song and the RR.

Ariyadhavan Puriyadhavan

What it is about…

The audio of J.K. Productions’ Ariyadhavan Puriyadhavan was launched recently. The first CD was released by director K. Bhagyaraj in the presence of Justice T. N. Vallinayagam and director R.V. Udhayakumar. J. K. has produced the film in addition to writing the story, screenplay, dialogue and lyrics, scoring the music and playing the lead. J.K. is the grandson of Kalaignanam, a popular story writer who introduced Rajinikanth as a hero in his film Bairavi . The others in the cast are Unni Maya, Sraddha Doss, ‘Subhalekha’ Sudhakar, ‘Boys’ Rajen and Arul Mani. A revenge story with an unusual screenplay, the film has the potential to keep the audience riveted.

Music highlights

There are only four numbers in the album of which one is theme music. ‘Yadhavan Yadhavan,’ sung by Jeni, and ‘Envazhiyil Nee Vanthal,’ sung by Jeni and Suraja, appeal. ‘Kadhalil Nan Vizhundean,’ sung by Velu, is above average.

What they say…

Producer, hero, music director and director J.K.: I came to Chennai in 1997 with the aim of becoming a music director. I learnt Carnatic music and took the keyboard exams conducted by the Trinity College of Music, London. I began as an assistant to director K. Bhagyaraj, one of the best screenplay writers in the field. I learnt the nuances of writing a screenplay from him. When I finished writing the story for this film, I decided to don the hero’s role. Besides, I ended up producing and directing the film due to various reasons. Whoever has seen the rushes, has appreciated my work.
