How did High Heels And A Shotgun begin?

Actually, we came together for a charity concert dedicated to the victims of the earthquake in Japan last year. We didn’t think we’d continue after that but we just couldn’t stop. We got to know each other through common friends and just randomly got together and jammed. Apart from being band members, we're all close friends.

The name is pretty unusual. Is there a story behind it?

Not really. I asked my brother for help and he suddenly came up with this. He says it is because we’re women and sing rock and roll. So we spun it around for a bit and decided it was fun and kind of catchy. We liked it, so it stuck.

What’s the best thing about the band members?

We’re decently talented (I think and hope). We have passion like no other, but we don’t take anything too seriously. We do our thing, work hard but also have fun with it.

You’re a girl-dominated band. Any challenges you’ve faced?

Yeah, we don’t get heard much. I mean because we’re pretty young and female, people don’t really give us a chance; but not everybody. Most people here in Chennai are quite encouraging.

What about upcoming projects?

We’re working on a bunch of own compositions. We’re trying to find ourselves as musicians and our style and sound. After we get an idea and more experience, we’re thinking of an album.

How did you convince your family and friends that this was what you wanted to do?

Our families have been incredibly, and surprisingly, supportive and helpful. But we’re all pretty strong willed so they never really had a choice.

Any specific goals?

Our goal is to find ourselves and show off our skills and then pray that everyone likes us.

Your most memorable moment so far?

So many. Jamming itself is insanely fun. Our drummer Nihal Raheja and other vocalist Samriddhi are total riots. Really helps with the pre-performance nerves. We’re all really good friends so every practice session and show is unforgettable.
