BIG SCREEN
Movie: Thadaiyara Thaakka
Cast: Arun Vijay, Mamta Mohandas, Maha Gandhi, Vamsi Krishna
Arun Vijay is back with his next film “Thadayara Thaakka”, an action crime thriller. This film is unlike his previous commercial films and has worked with the talented director Magilzh Thirumeni, a former assistant of Gautam Vasudev Menon.
Plot
The film begins with the murder of husband and wife. Selva (Arun Vijay), the owner of a travel agency is waiting for an IT contract to make big money. Priya (Mamta Mohandas) plays his love interest. The film moves at a normal pace until the gangsters find the cricket bat that hit Maha (Maha Gandhi) in Selva's car. Then it is a cat and mouse game between the hero and the gangsters.
The movie moves fast with its screenplay neatly crafted and the suspense of the character of Gayathri (Rakul) keeps you thrilled. The movie loses its momentum when the suspense is revealed in the latter part but the good action sequence in the climax and its picturisation make up for it. Here, a credit goes to the Cinematographer Sukumar.
Performances
Arun Vijay plays his role with ease as the owner of the travel agency. Mamta Mohandas who's back in Kollywood after a long break makes her presence felt. The major plus in the movie is Thaman's background score that keeps you thrilled till the end. Kumar (Vamsi Krishna) and Maha (Maha Gandhi) as gang leaders both do their part well.
There is no scope for comedy in the movie except for a few scenes here and there. Too many songs may spoil the narration, so the director has cleverly avoided them and intelligently worked on his screenplay.
Bottomline: A good, though not the best crime thriller.
