Although their college is located far away from the city centre the students have discovered eating joints that are only a walk away from campus. Further down Old Alwal road is Sree Bakery (Extension), a little bakery with a Chinese food counter outside. Ramesh Rao, who started the bakery ten years ago, says his day starts at lunch time. That is when the bakery starts filling up with students from Loyola College. Outside the bakery, a group of students have already arrived for lunch, despite the light drizzle. With only a blue tarpaulin for cover, they tuck into their chicken noodles. “Manchurian rice!” comes the unanimous response from a group of Animation students when asked what’s best at Sree Bakery; it was the store’s Chinese counter that drew in the numbers. “A plate of noodles and a soft drink – you don’t get bored of that!” say two other students, whom the owner describes as regulars in the shop.

At Rs.30 for a plate of noodles, Sree Bakery is a perfect place to go with college friends. “We always go as a group of six or eight so the bill comes up to a maximum of Rs.150-200,” says Akriti Singh. When not in the mood for Chinese, the students head to nearby Veerabhadra Bakery which has a reputation for its egg puffs. “There are more than three different types of egg puffs there,” says Varun Agarwal. The tiny size of the shop doesn’t stop the crowds from coming.

For something a little more fancy the student head to the nearby Cineplaza, Dominoes or McDonalds.

“If it’s a birthday or if anyone is treating us to food we take a bus to these places,” they say. The college canteen too is a preferred destination for most of the students. “The canteen is our main adda !” says Nayan Kumar.
