CHIC DESIGNS A Chaitanya Rao creation

Designers from Bahrain and Sri Lanka will share ramp space with well-known names from Chennai, Kochi, Bangalore and Hyderabad at the Kingfisher Premium Chennai International Fashion Week that begins Friday evening at Hyatt Regency in the city.

The fourth edition of the pageant features an interesting line-up of talent spread over four days. While Darshi Keerthisena and Prabath Samarasooriya of Sri Lanka are all set to charm fashionistas with their distinct fashion sensibilities, Priya Kataaria Puri will bring some refreshing style elements from Bahrain.

Chennai has plenty to offer. Vivek Karunakaran opens the pageant with his “Wanderlust” collection that will transport you to the realm of dreams. On Day Four, Chaitanya Rao takes his signature wispy feel to a surprising level of creativity. Other designers from the city include Julie Verghese, Richa Goenka and Anuradha Bisani.

What makes this fashion extravaganza special is the representation by designers from the southern States. There’s Hari Anand from Kerala, Shravan Kumar from Andhra Pradesh and Ramesh Dembla from Karnataka.

Missing Mumbai? Well, there’s Riyaz Ganji who is ready to turn on the glam quotient. From downright Indian to completely Western, the designers will showcase a range of styles and trends that reflect the moods and colours of the season.

“With Kingfisher Premium on board, we can ring in good times. Our brand synergies match, so we can take things to the next level in this fourth edition,” says Gaurav Sharma, CEO, Storm Fashion Company, that presents the CIFW and similar fashion weeks in Kochi, Jaipur, Hyderabad and Ludhiana.

QUOTES:

1. It’s a huge fashion extravaganza in the city. I am looking forward to being part of this edition and dazzling the ramp in all those lovely creations – Parvathy Omanakuttan, model-actor

2. This platform is a confluence of high fashion and fun. I’m glad to be associated with an event that’ll make a huge impact in Chennai – Ganesh Venkatraman, actor

Bold is beautiful

If the ‘bold and strong’ trend is up your alley, then you’ll fall in love with this line. It takes you to a magical world of dreams and fantasy with perfectly hand-crafted ensembles and separates that come together to create an edgy, unique look. My trademark fabric treatments are there and powerful cuts and strong tactile detailing act as a perfect foil to delicate pleats and ruffles. There’s contouring and layering for that caressing, dreamy feel. Tulle flounces with dreamy felt applique, precise waist management (nipped or narrowed down) and beautiful colour blocking are other highlights of this line that brings together the strong and the soft features of design.

Vivek Karunakaran, designer
