That the EDM scene in India is heating up is a known fact and fortifying its presence here is The Legends Tour, curated by DJ Pearl, which brings path-breaking DJs from the Electronic Music world to India.

About the concept of the tour, Pearl says: “The Legend's Tour was born out of many concerns, the most important being that I wanted to introduce our younger audiences to the stalwarts of the Electronic Music world. These were our legends for good reason. They were DJs first before anything else. Their sets and sounds moulded not only the way I play but also of a lot of my contemporaries in India. It takes real skill to be a magician behind the decks, without resorting to playing big room or high energy sounds relentlessly and I am attempting to showcase that along with a glimpse into their history through The Legend's Tour.”

Kicking off the tour tomorrow, is Dave Seaman, a DJ and producer who has made a lasting impact on both the club and pop scenes. Following a long and luminous 30-year career, Dave Seaman continues to be on the frontline of electronic house music.

In a telephonic interview, an excited Dave says: “It's exhilarating to be playing in India again but more importantly I'm honoured to be considered a legend and an important one at that to be kick starting this tour.”

The DJ who is among the pioneers of electronic music says: “I was inclined toward music when I was a little boy. After I realised that one could actually make a career out of DJing, nothing could stop me from being what I wanted to be.”

“To be able to do something that you love and to get paid for it as well was more than I could ask for,” says Dave Seaman who has mixed tracks for names such as U2, Kylie Minogue, David Bowie and Pet Shop Boys, among many others.

His colossal discography comprises more than 60 releases and 30 remixes. His productions have gone on to feature more than 80 other titles, released all over the world, making him one of the most accomplished DJs. Of his accomplishments, he says: “Music is what sets my heart on fire. I love doing what I do and when someone enjoys his job and works hard, success always comes his way.” However, he does not deny that without the support of his family he wouldn't be able to pursue his passion.

For someone who has been in the industry for three decades, Dave is happy with the way dance music is faring. But there is a downside, he feels. “There are so many new DJs who are impressive but the sad part is that a lot of them don't seem to realise that DJing isn't about playing someone else's hits. It's about being original, making some fantastic records of your own that end up becoming hits.”

Having played at the Sunburn Festival before, Dave is not entirely new to India. “I had a wonderful experience the last time I was there, something tells me, it's going to be even better this time around, “ he quips.

Ask him what he thinks of the EDM landscape in our country and the DJ says: “The Bollywood scene here is strong and has a huge fan following. But for something as foreign and new as EDM, it is doing rather well for itself in India, especially among the youth.”

Dave Seaman will be playing in Bangalore on June 3, 2012. For further details about The Legends Tour, visit www.submerge.in
