Say no to trends, says celebrity hairstylist Sapna Bhavnani at a recent workshop in the city

“If you spend more than five minutes on your hair every day, you need to get a life or a job,” says Sapna Bhavnani. How ironic considering she is a celebrity hairstylist! Tattooed, pierced, with pixie-like cropped hair...seems like the description of a biker chick. But that's just Sapna and her wacky sense of style. In the city to conduct a Fiama Di Wills Hair Workshop, the session had Sapna showcase a step-by-step hair makeover. Titled Tress Talk, this was the second of the multi-city workshop planned at various ITC hotels.

Dressed in a black ruffled halter top teamed with purple leggings, Sapna deftly cut the model's hair, and suggested a quick fix hair tip. She recommends twisting your hair after a hair wash and when you let it loose you'll have fine curls and waves. But it was more like stating the obvious. Based out of Mumbai, Sapna has been in the beauty industry for the last 14 years, and her clientele include Gauri Khan, Priyanka Chopra, Bipasha Basu, John Abraham, Hrithik Roshan and M.S. Dhoni. So, whose hair does she enjoy working with the most? “All my clients are chilled out people. Bipasha experiments a lot with her hair, so that keeps me excited. Mandira Bedi who was known for her poker straight hair now has short hair and carries it off really well. She serves as a good example for wearing saris with short hair,” she smiles.

According to her, it is silly to take pictures from magazines for a haircut, as the models sporting them have their hair styled. “Do not follow trends. Choose something you are comfortable in,” adds the expert.

With the heat wreaking havoc on our hair, it becomes vital to ask her about summer hair care. “Go for shorter hair. Don't overuse hair products,” she signs off, smiling.
