“Good Earth's philosophy is about ecological friendliness and sustainability, and celebrating the best of Indian style,” says Soumya Keshavan, business partner for Good Earth's outlet in Chennai, situated in a suitably graceful old home in quiet, tree-lined Rutland Gate.
Now, the designer brand (which began in Mumbai in 1996) is all set to extend that philosophy to a whole new set of products and services in the city, from its own range of all-natural face and body products, ‘Absolute Good Earth', to a cheerful Indo-Western line of apparel and accessories.
“The ‘Absolute Good Earth' range, consisting of lotions, creams, moisturisers and face wash, will be made from the purest natural essences — completely chemical free,” says Soumya.
“And, with our line of kurtis , kurtas and more, we will revive traditional Indian materials, such as linen and cotton, and traditional motifs and embroidery.” The clothes, she says, will be comfortably tailored and priced, for the ‘normal'-sized woman of fashion over the age of 30.
“This is for real women who are not size zero,” she says. “The emphasis will be on finish and detailing.”
That's not all. Experts from the store will also soon be able to lend that unique Good Earth touch of style to your home, with the introduction of their complete styling services. “We'd take care of all your interior décor needs, from blinds and wallpaper to flooring and lighting,” says Soumya.
If the tasteful displays of everything from cutlery and candles to cushions and chandeliers in every room of the store is any indication of what's to come, lovers of style and fashion in Chennai are in for a bit of a treat.
