From things big and small that are a necessity to luxury products, there is something for everyone in the family at The Hindu MetroPlus Lifestyle Show that opened at the Chennai Trade Centre here on Thursday.
The lifestyle show, South India's largest consumer fair, was inaugurated by actor-singer Andrea Jeremiah.
“Some of the things are very pretty, the flowers from Thailand have really caught my attention,” she said. Ms.Jeremiah, who went around the stalls after inaugurating the shopping extravaganza, returned to one of them selling the flowers and picked a bunch big enough to fill a vase.
“I am an erratic shopper. I can go for months without shopping. Footwear, stationery and books are things I love to buy,” said the 5.8 ft tall actor, adding that the height is minus the heeled shoe she is wearing.
From IT products, automobiles and accessories, furniture and furnishing, home appliances, bathroom fittings, arts and handicrafts, healthcare products, real estate, and a lot more, the five-day show promises to be a one-stop shop for all needs.
It is the seventh edition of the lifestyle show, which every year is getting bigger and better. Around 280 stalls are showcasing products easy enough to fit one's pocket to branded luxury goods.
For those planning to add a touch of style to the interiors, the Thailand pavilion is a refreshing treat. Flower arrangements that double up as lamp shades at nights, candles made of lemon grass that act as mosquito repellents as well as room fresheners and pretty knick-knacks would easily draw even the window shoppers.
For those interested in eco-friendly products, then each of the stall set up by the National Jute Board have plenty to offer – from bags, folders to pouches and lunch box carriers. A group from Kolkata is showcasing jute moulded kitchen wares, which is also microwave-friendly.
Carrying out different household chores including cleaning and cooking is always a burden. Making the lives easy, a few stalls have products that can be used for multi-fold purposes.
For hungry and tired shoppers, there are quenchers and eatables to choose from. There are also stalls such as the one selling pickles from Rajasthan offering tangy varieties that would last for months together.
Samsung, the main sponsor of the event for the sixth year, has exhibited high-end 3-D LED, LCD, plasma televisions and some of its latest launches.
