Whether it is astrology, baking, candle and soap making, R. Sudha is a true example of multi tasking. Married at an early age, due to family responsibility she was unable to take a regular nine to five job. But that did not stop her from pursuing new skills and opportunities.

Apart from astrology consultation, she conducts workshops in baking, candle and soap making and flower arrangement. Specialising in edible prints, she is up to date with latest technologies in her areas of interests and is constantly researching for more.

“I have been baking for the past 15 years. When I started, there wasn’t anyone in Hyderabad to teach me so I had to go outside the state to acquire the skills,” she says while patiently icing a cupcake. Her eldest son hovers around occasionally assisting her.

He proudly shows off her work and claims, “Of course, I help her. I taste everything she makes.” She adds, “It’s because of the children I started baking.” She says baking is all about practice and patience.

With the help of edible ink, printer and sheets, she specialises in edible prints which can be used to on cupcakes, cookies, cakes and chocolates. She also makes edible bouquets. “Procuring good quality raw material is very hard and they are expensive too,” she says. However, for edible prints just buying the material is not enough, she insists you need to have a basic knowledge of multimedia and Photoshop. She also dabbles in spray, mesh, emboss and gold prints on candles. Though she takes bulk orders, she prefers conducting workshops. The workshops are generally held over weekends. Right from baking, to icing, making fondant her classes cover everything.

Managing so many things is not an easy task but she makes it look simple. “I get bored doing the same over and over again. Once you compartmentalise everything, it becomes easy,” she adds.
