The Hindu Young World Painting Competition 2011 saw more than 400 participants.

Students and parents from all over the Capital showed up at the 17th Annual The Hindu Young World on the spot painting Competition 2011 held at Bhartiya Vidya Bhawan, New Delhi, recently.

The enthusiasm of the children was infectious as 400 young artists from 40 schools assembled together to try their hand at winning the grand prizes and proving their mettle.

Topics

The children were given topics and were free to let their imagination interpret these topics in any way they chose. The competition had two categories in which the children competed. “Juniors” from Stds IV to VII, while the others was “Seniors” from Stds VIII to X. The participants in the Junior category were given a choice of four topics: “Picnic with family”, “Enjoying ice-cream with friends”, “Visit to a museum of a botanical garden” and “Having fun at the playground”. Seniors had to choose from the topics, “Enjoying the rain with friends”, “Bicycle ride with friends”, “Watching a cricket/tennis match on TV with family/friends” and “Science Exhibition”.

In each category, 10 prizes — first, second and third and seven consolation prizes, were given. In the senior category, the first prize carried a cash award of Rs.5,000, the second prize Rs.3,000 and third prize Rs.2,000 while in the junior category, the first prize was Rs.3,000, the second prize Rs.2,000 and the third prize Rs.1,000.

The consolation prize winners in both the categories got Rs.500 each. The prize winners were also awarded certificates. All the participants were given participation certificates.

After careful deliberation, the judges came to a decision and announced the prizes.

In the senior category, the first prize went to Dishaddra Poddar of Std IX of Ryan International School, Mayur Vihar, while the second prize was bagged by Anamika Adhikari of Std X studying in Kendriya Vidyalaya No.2 (AFS), Hindon. The third prize went to Mohit, a student of Std X, Evergreen Public School, Vasundhara Enclave.

Winners

As for the winners of junior category, the first prize went to Kushal Chakrabarty of Std VII, Khaitan Public School, Sector-40, Noida, while the second prize was bagged by Divya Prasad of Std VII, Kendriya Vidyalaya, Masjid Moth, Sadiq Nagar. The third prize went to Somoshree Mahapatra of Std VII of St. Anthony's Senior Secondary School, Hauz Khas.

Eminent artist P. K. Roy, art teacher of Navodaya Jawahar Vidyalaya, Ministry of Human Resources Development, was the judge . He has organised more than 11 solo shows at national level and various group shows. The Gaddi, a pictorial book by Mr. Roy, on Gadia Lohar people has been published this year. Mr. Roy has received Navodaya National Readers Award in 1999.

Miot Hospitals were the title sponsor of the event and Amrutanjan the national sponsor.
